Many times people come to me asking me to help improve a certain situation they are trying to handle. For example, recently my brother-in-laws friend came to me saying-
“Hey David, my name is ….. and I’m friends with ….. He mentioned to me that you would be able to assist me with bodybuilding and weight loss. I’m currently trying to get in better shape and I hope you will accept my request and assist me in any way possible.”
I answered this with a very common response I give-
“What are you currently doing in order to get into better shape?”
I ultimately need to know what moves people are currently making in order to improve their situation. Realize this creates a few responses. Some individuals say they can’t lose weight, can’t build muscle, get stronger, etc., no matter what. Once you actually speak to them it may be revealed that they are not even following basic fitness guidelines. The first step towards success is to take the first step. Secondly, speaking to individuals about the actions they are already taking also allows me to make changes. Understanding their current situation is the most important factor out of the gate, and many times, it’s revealed that people are not even following the first basic steps.
