I think many people can relate to my history. I was normal. Normal in that I was fat, got called names, picked on, and tormented. But my main enemy was not some kid at school, but my own dad. He made be believe that I was worthless, and his words had enough sting to make me cry. I ate my way up to a staggering 300 lbs, and lack of physical activity simply compounded my issues led on by pour eating habits. My grandmother was an amazing cook, though healthy dishes were NOT her specialty, and I was always there to help make sure the food didn’t go to waste. I saw myself getting worse, and activities during P.E. were a true challenge for me. I realized one day I would eventually be facing some health challenges, so I decided to simply loose a little weight.
I was 17 years old when my neighbor gave us a barbell, and my mom had a treadmill (clothes rack might be a more accurate description) in her room. I put both to use and immediately started focusing on athletes who achieved greatness. I realized that they did not get to where they were at by giving up. So I worked, and I worked hard. Day in, day out. I began eliminating foods I enjoyed. I spent more time reading Men’s Fitness than Electronic Gaming Monthly. I began to work out more and push my body. A very close friend of mine, Hugo, who to this day still shares the passion of fitness and health, joined Golds Gym. I begged my mom for a membership which she seemed to be thrilled about it seeing as how I usually begged for video games. Joining that Golds Gym was the best decision I have ever made. It was a blessing from God. I happened to join the most intense gym back home where multiple bodybuilders trained, powerlifters, fitness models, etc. All the intensity in the area resided at our gym. I quickly made friends with Mr. California, and some top ranked athletes including a highly recognized strength coach.
This quickly became my life. As I educated myself more and more on the subject, it became more and more a part of who I was and what I represented. Fitness and nutrition ran through my veins and gave me the drive and passion to overcome ANY obstacle thrown my way. I quickly became recognized as a very intense person in the gym, a true product of my environment. I pushed the boundaries and was willing to do what others wouldn’t.
This became my life. I decided to go to school for nutrition. I studied everything I could come across related to the field of fitness and nutrition. I studied books, videos, seminars, spoke to experts in multiple fields, analyzed diets, worked with countless people to change their lives, spent countless hours manipulating my diet and putting myself through grueling training sessions, etc. Did EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to feed my passion for this. But as time continues on, one thing has become evident- feeding my hunger for more in the fitness and nutrition field is an appetite I will never suppress.
